Acting I:  Intro to Acting (Summer Session)

Saturdays, June 22- July 20, 2013 (5 classes) 10:00-11:30am

Limited to 12 students

Cost $90

This class will de-mystify the process of approaching a role, freeing the body, freeing the voice and becoming more comfortable onstage and in front of an audience.

The theories of Practical Aesthetics (an acting technique created by David Mamet and William H. Macy to help actors approach roles in a practical, accessible and straightforward way). and Viewpoints(a logical approach to creating aesthetically free and dynamic movement on stage) will be merged to push actors physically, vocally and emotionally into new avenues of growth.

Acting Studio (Summer Session)

Saturdays, June 22 - July 20, 2013 (5 classes)  11:30-1:10pm

Prerequisite:  Acting I at Bas Bleu

Cost:  $90

An in-depth scene study class for students familiar with Practical Aesthetics.  Focus is on providing student with intensive actor training to help participants move beyond their current level of performance.  Scenes will be provided before the first class to maximize time for actor training.  Scenes do not need to be memorized by first class.

Instructor:

Sarah Zwick-Tapley has worked professionally as an actor, director and comic. She received her MFA in Acting from a joint program between American Repertory Theatre, Harvard University and the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia and a BA in Acting from Illinois State University.  A member of Actors Equity Association, her acting credits include American RepertoryTheatre, Boston Playwrights Theatre, the Guthrie, the Moscow Art Theatre and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. Sarah has worked with such artists as David Mamet, Lee Breuer, Robert Woodruff, Catherine Fitzmaurice and Russian theatre scholar Anatoly Smeliansk

Presenting Science as a Performing Art

Become a more dynamic public speaker! Students will learn how to apply the principles of acting to the presentation of science. Vocal and physical exercises will help scientists more clearly, accessibly and dynamically share their areas of expertise.We will cover ways to combat nervousness, project vocally, successfully utilize PowerPoint slides and have a greater presence on stage.
Class size is limited to eight students.

Former acting students of Sarah Zwick-Tapley include Brendan Dunphy, the host of the BBC and Discovery Science channel’sInsects and the City.
Sarah Zwick-Tapley has worked professionally as an actor, director and comic. She received her MFA in Acting from a joint program between American Repertory Theatre, Harvard University and the Moscow Art Theatre in Russia and a BA in Acting from Illinois State University . While there, she studied with renowned vocal coach, Nancy Houfek. A member of Actors Equity Association, Ms. Zwick-Tapley's acting credits include American RepertoryTheatre, Boston Playwrights Theatre, the Guthrie, the Moscow Art Theatre and the Kennedy Center in Washington , D.C. Sarah has worked with such artists as David Mamet, Lee Breuer, Robert Woodruff, CatherineFitzmaurice and Russian theatre scholar Anatoly Smeliansky. Currently, she teaches at Colorado State University and is the Educational Outreach Coordinator at Bas Bleu Theatre in Fort Collins, CO.
