When Lilla Barton, wife of the pastor of All Saints’ Episcopal Church in Lowndes, Alabama, is widowed, she refuses to leave the rectory, her home of twenty-three years. The new pastor is about to assume his duties, but as long as Lilla remains steadfast, there is no place for him and his family to live. When the vestry committee cannot persuade Lilla to leave, formal eviction proceedings are initiated. Set against a background of conflict between the “Old” and “New” South, the play explores the challenges of letting go of a painful past in order to embrace the future. Featuring Jonathan Farwell and Deb Note-Farwell.
