Summer Theatre Camps are coming to Bas Bleu in 2017!

In an exciting new partnership with Fort Collins’ venerable Bas Bleu Theatre Company, Diagonal’s Summer Theatre Camps are multi-week day camps, designed to provide a creative theatrical experience for students in grades 1-12. Camps are offered on a variety of themes including Creative Drama, Musical Theater, Shakespeare, Acting, Improvisation, and more. They’re designed for students at all experience levels, and are a great way for kids to stretch their creative muscles, try something new, make friends, learn new skills, and work as an ensemble, all in the joyful spirit of summer.

They’re taught by trained teaching artists who create safe, creative spaces and offer opportunities for campers to develop artistic technique, social skills, and imaginative thinking. There will also be an opportunity for HS students to work as apprentices, learning from and assisting professional teaching artists, designers, and arts administrators. All summer camps culminate in a celebratory presentation or sharing for students’ friends and families.

Each camp will also include a component of memory training, and all teaching artists will be trained how to impart the fundamentals of memorization. This component not only helps campers develop one of the fundamental skills all actors must possess, but also builds confidence, reduces anxiety, saves time, and provides a support for other tasks in their everyday lives: study skills, public speaking, test taking, etc. Go to http://www.diagonaltheatre.org/ for more information.

GRADES 9-12

Summer Teen Conservatory

The Diagonal Summer Teen Conservatory is a 2-week, thirty-hour-per-week intensive for 14-17 year olds; it is the most rigorous of its kind. This demanding program is based on the conviction that young actors can be trained with the same rigor and discipline as adults. Actors exercise all the aspects of craft required to achieve the highest professional standards: voice and speech, movement, improvisation, scene study, Shakespeare and acting technique. The Summer Teen Conservatory is informed by the insight that “growth as an actor and growth as a human being are synonymous.” Young people are therefore acquainted not only with core elements of actor training but with the artistic, cultural and humanistic values that support a life in the theater and film. Program ends with an “Open Class” where students show work from Scene Study and Shakespeare Classes. Parents welcome.
